| Most of the sports photos I take are game action pictures, and
while many of them capture peak moments involving well known athletes, I more often favor
quiet shots. I like to get a photo that's just plain good to look at for a
while. Something you won't get to see on TV, or a baseball card. In addition, I have
my favorite athletes. Like Edgar Martinez of the Seattle Mariners, seen here just getting
ready to warm up inside the Mariner dugout at Peoria, Arizona prior to batting in a Cactus
League game. The reason I like Edgar is that he talks to people the way you might
talk with a next door neighbor over the fence. And when he signs autographs for the kids,
he gives them something many great ballplayers don't--eye contact, a smile and sometimes a
few words. You get the idea that Edgar stands for something a lot higher up than a
multi-million dollar contract. Add that to his batting average and you've got a ball
player worth taking a picture of. |
