Every once in a while, I'm assigned to illustrate a concept, as opposed to photographing straight news stories about real people in real situations. These are always credited as photo illustrations rather than "photo by" and never run on the hard- news pages such as 1A or Local News. Dreams was created using one of my stock suburban aerials for a back- ground, which I scanned from a slide, plus digital photos of 4 different clouds, a lamp, a clock, a mattress and, most importantly, fellow photo- grapher and super model Michael Perry. Using Adobe Photoshop 4, I assembled the items as layers. By saving the overall image in Photoshop format, I was able to keep the layers active and rework the composition several ways before deciding which way worked best. Near completion, the image shown represented more than 76 megabytes as I worked it on my screen. Flattened, it was just over 9 megabytes. This type of photo is a lot easier to make when you have a visually literate model. It's even easier when that person has a good grasp of photography. |
